Question/Comments: Dr. Manhart, I wanted to write and tell you how excited I am after returning from my latest periodontist appointment! A little background – I was diagnosed with periodontal disease two years ago and was referred to a periodontists who insisted I get gum flap surgery on all four quadrants. I couldn’t afford the total surgery and had it performed on the worst quadrant, (upper left).
Needless to say this was a huge mistake as I have had nothing but issues with the teeth in that area since the surgery – I am thankful I didn’t proceed with all quadrants. The pockets in the remaining quadrants have been 5-7mm – until recently! I started using your Oral-cal a little over two months ago and swish with it daily for 20 minutes.
I went for my cleaning last week and the dental assistant was confused – my gums are a healthy pink and my pockets are now measuring 3-5mm! She said this shouldn’t happen with periodontal disease and called the periodontist in to verify! I told the doctor what I have been doing and he was impressed as he has never heard of calcium therapy for periodontal disease before.
I do have one question – two of my teeth,(7 & 10), are still measuring at 7mm.
The periodontist said he did not work on those while doing the gum flap surgery as the pockets were too deep and too much tooth would have been exposed. He said he hopes I can keep them for awhile longer but said there is nothing I can do to improve them. Is this true? Do you have another product that could be used to focus in on these deeper pockets\problem areas? I thank you for all you do and am thankful for finding your product! ~ Ed in FL
Response: Do keep using the materials and please send us an x-ray of #8+9, upper front centrals to see if these would have anything to do with #7 and #10. Do NOT let anyone ever measure gum pockets again. That spreads any infection all over the mouth and tells us nothing biological. Your feeling and the characteristics of the gums and tightness of the teeth are much better indicators of your health.
Would be good to hear from that dentist if he is interested in learning Calcium Therapy.
Kind regards, Mark DDS
