COMMENT: Dear Dr. Manhart, I was able to finally convince the root canal specialist to give me a root canal!!! She did it on the spot. She was hesitant even though the tooth had NO SENSATION at all!! I counted twelve seconds before she finally took the Endo Ice off. She doused the cotton swab with the stuff! The other front tooth actually did have some cool sensation after about two seconds. So she must have put more on them than the other doctors.
But my right side tooth had nothing. So even though she seemed perplexed as she looked at my x-ray and I didn’t have serious pain, she said she would do a root canal and I said let’s do it right now. Sure enough after doing the root canal she said “the tooth was completely dead.”
Thanks so much for continuing to correspond with me during this trying time and keeping me going. I was close to giving up several times, but the fact that you felt so strongly about it made me realize this is not all in my head and I need to deal with it. I hope she’ll look at this type of situation differently in the future with her other patients. I think she was genuinely surprised. Warmest regards – AW in Arizona
ANSWER: AW in AZ – See how good this is when we work together. For the tooth that had no response till 12 seconds means it has been infected and dying for a long time, maybe decades, unless it was recently really injured. This is what dentists have never been educated about and it is very common. No, she likely put the same dose of Endo Ice on both teeth and her count would also be the same for both.
The other one that responded in 2 to 3 seconds means it is very normal and very vital. So not to worry. In fact, it could have responded even for a few more seconds and been fine because the bad one has made the whole area worse. Now with her root canal done, things will improve all over the mouth, esp. near that new root canal and the lower teeth. Continue with the calcium materials, even just the Strips on the upper and lower front teeth, and see how things improve. Most of the time it is striking how much better an area like the lowers become and should take a lot of credit with you.
Wait a few months before testing the others again. Give your body time to come back. Don’t rush. It took a long time getting this bad to kill a bit tooth. This is how the Calcium Therapy becomes a diagnostic tool to figure out things.
It was smart to have it done now. Waiting seems to just make things worse. It is a very serious matter dealing with the single most common cause of almost everything that can be wrong in the mouth. I want to tell dentists and patients about it. You deserve to know.
Thanks, Mark DDS
